From the first shovel in the ground to every step of the building process, our homeowners, contractors, and architects choose quality building products like Westman Steel for all their building projects.

Why Choose Steel For Your Home?

While asphalt shingles are a popular choice because of their low cost, they just don’t compare to our quality steel roofs. Steel outperforms in durability, longevity, and superior protection for your home. Your home is the most expensive thing you will buy, and you need a roof that will protect that investment.

When replacing your roof, consider what material will best protect your family. The Canadian Building Code recognizes steel building materials as non-combustible, making them the ideal choice for your home. Steel will provide peace of mind compared to wood, asphalt shingles, and other materials. Steel is the right choice to protect your home and family.

Unlike wood, stone, vinyl, asphalt shingles and cement board siding, steel roofing and cladding panels require very little maintenance. Steel roofing and cladding are resistant to harsh weather conditions, which can damage the exterior of your building. With steel, there is no need to repaint, seal joints, or fix blown-off shingles; all you do is simply wash it off to retain its pleasing aesthetic.

Steel roofing and cladding systems may initially require a greater upfront financial investment compared to other building material. However, a steel roof and cladding system will last 50+ years! In comparison, an asphalt shingle roof would require three replacements in that same 50 year time span. With inflation and annual dumping fees to dispose of the old roof, a homeowner would spend close to four times as much over the same period of time. Steel is a steal of a deal!

Myth About Steel: Lightning

In the unlikely chance that a building is struck by lightning, a steel roof would actually be the best material to have. The steel works to disperse the energy safely; more importantly, steel is non-combustible. A steel roof will not catch fire when struck by lightning. You can’t say that for other roofing materials.

Myth About Steel: Lightning

A steel roof is no louder than an asphalt shingle roof; the difference is installation. You can correctly install your new steel roof, with underlayment, ice and water shield and directly install it to the deck. Installing a roof system with strapping will produce an air gap between the deck and the new steel panels. When it rains or in high winds, this space creates a drumming effect, resulting in a noisy roof. Eliminate the air gap with a direct-to-deck installation, and you won't lose a good night's sleep.

Myth About Steel: Lightning

Whether you need to clean out your gutters or you’re looking to chop down some overhanging branches, you shouldn’t be afraid to walk on your steel roof. Steel Roofing is safe to walk on for any home improvement project. It’s a good idea to talk to your roofing contractor or Westman Steel about safety precautions.

Myth About Steel: Lightning

Steel roofs are unique in their ability to withstand high wind speeds. They are the best choice regarding their wind ratings. They achieve this by screwing to the deck versus nailing like an asphalt shingle. The pull-out tolerances are much higher. For example, our EDCO Steel shingles, when installed with screws, have a wind blow-off rating of 258 KPH or 160 MPH. No asphalt shingle on the planet will take that much wind pressure and remain on your roof.

Myth About Steel: Lightning

Steel roofs work to reflect the UV rays that most asphalt roofs absorb. Additionally, Steel roofs release solar heat much more quickly than asphalt roofs, reducing the overall heat load on your house. When you have a metal roof properly installed, it will maintain a more consistent interior temperature, and you can expect energy savings.

Myth About Steel: Lightning

In the fight against rust, we bonded our Steel roofs with galvalume or galvanized coatings constructed of advanced alloys to resist rusting. Westman Steel uses a heat-applied paint system made to withstand the effects of weathering and UV breakdown, which means that once you install steel roofing, siding, and trims, it will remain rust-free for decades.

Our profiles are differentiated by their Tensile Strength, this has two components: Yield and Ultimate. Yield occurs when the material is no longer able to perform its function (bending or stretching) without breaking. Ultimate is the point at which the material breaks.

The Tensile Strength of a material is the maximum tensile pulling force stress, or maximum force per unit area, that the material can sustain before it breaks under tension.
